I was checking out the art of Bob Kane today at work....I found a copy of the old BATMAN newspaper strips from the early 40's, for cheap recently and Kane's art at that point had progressed just enuff.....to kind of interest me again. It's BIG and KLUNKY as all hell...but it has this immediacy to it that just screams in a frenzy of raw power! I'm sure the inker Charlie Paris had a bunch to do with it....As I always heard it Bob Kane was somewhat of a hack, who just came up with the core idea of The BATMAN. Well..... It was a helluva idea. Nowadays it
is pretty much known who did what on the early stuff......I'm sure you heard all about it. But I think I get where his head was at, at that time...Hire Ghosts to do the comicbooks and sit back to draw the daily strips.......remember back in thoes days the artist used comicbooks as a stepping stone to get into the syndicated newspaper comics, and make some real money. So this was kinda like His Baby, ya'know...Comparing the stuff to his early Detective, BATMAN stories, it's a lot smoother (Yea, the inker, I know) and has much more mass and volume to the figures. Parts of it look like he was swiping from Dick Tracy, especially the villains, but all in all, it's some fun goofy BATMAN shit.....straight from his creator.... and ghost writer....and inkers.....and background men....you get the picture.
oh yea....he even had a ghost painter......
